Mysterious egghead in a hair follicle. What is it?

Dr  Sampurna Roy  MD

If you are not a Twitter user , you will have no idea why I have used the word "egghead".

(The default profile picture of Twitter is an "egg". It is mostly used by people those who don't want to be identified ).

A) This section of a hair follicle reminded me of twitter's "egghead" at the centre.

Like the "egghead users" something is hiding inside the egg-shaped space. What is it?

B) I smeared the egg with colour (PAS-stain). Now you can see the real profile picture.

Have you got the diagnosis?

Diagnosis: Tinea Capitis: (Ringworm). The keratin of the hair follicle has been destroyed at the centre and replaced by a mass of filamentous fungi which is clearly identified by PAS stain.
