This condition is recognized as deposition of a
lipofuscin-like pigment in the epithelium, but there is no
inflammatory reaction to it, which distinguishes it from ceroid
granulomas and
Xanthogranulomatous Cholecystitis.
The lesion is similar to that of melanosis coli.
