| A case
of lobular capillary hemangioma (pyogenic granuloma), localized to the
subcutaneous tissue, and a review of the literature.Am
J Dermatopathol. 2007 Aug;29(4):408-11.
Lobular capillary
hemangioma (pyogenic granuloma) is a common vascular proliferation
that typically occurs in the superficial dermis, although rarely a
subcutaneous form has been reported. Although these lesions are
considered benign, localized recurrence after excision and satellite
spread of the lesions are known phenomena. A case of lobular capillary
hemangioma with the unusual features of both subcutaneous localization
and locally aggressive behavior following surgery in a patient with a
history of estrogen use and local trauma prior to the onset of the
lesion is presented. The literature of lobular capillary hemangioma is
reviewed, and the differential diagnosis is discussed.

Lobular
capillary hemangioma or pyogenic granuloma is a benign lesion with a
focal reactive development of fibrovascular tissue and endotelial
proliferation. It can appear to any age in different locations and
usually has the aspect of a pediculate mass with or without ulceration
zones on the area. Its treatment is the simple surgical removal and
the control of the traumatic and infectious influential factors. We
report a case of pyogenic granuloma on the floor of the mouth making a
literature review at respect of that common clinical entity.

Cutis. 2004 Oct;74(4):229-33.
Pyogenic
granuloma (PG) is an acquired vascular lesion of the skin and mucous
membranes common to the pediatric age group. PG appears as a solitary
red nodule on the head or neck. The nodule is prone to hemorrhage, and
bleeding is often refractory to pressure. The etiology of PG is
unknown, but proposed agents include trauma, infection, and preceding
dermatoses. Several surgical treatments are available with variable
cosmetic results and recurrence rates. |
