| Tendon
sheath fibroma of the medial canthus.
Ophthal Plast
Reconstr Surg. 2007 Jul-Aug;23(4):341-2.
Isolated fibromas of
the ocular adnexa are rare. Fibromas of the tendon sheath (FTS) are benign,
collagenous, spindle cell neoplasms that typically present as an acquired,
painless mass in the adult extremities. They infrequently involve the head
and neck. We report a case of FTS presenting as a medial canthal mass. Like
most FTS, the lesion in our patient was successfully treated by complete
surgical excision. While the differential diagnosis contains a variety of
mesenchymal tumors, the clinical and radiographic characteristics should
lead to the correct diagnosis. To our knowledge, this is the first case of
FTS reported to arise at this site.
Tendinous sheath fibroma
causing "trigger wrist" and carpal tunnel syndrome.Chir
Main. 2006 Jun;25(2):89-91.
There are few cases
described of fibroma of tendon sheath located to the hand and the wrist. A
case of fibroma of tendon sheath of lumbrical muscle of the index finger has
been described. The tumor was responsible of a peculiar phenomenon of
"triggering" of the wrist during the movements of flexion and extension of
the index finger, and caused compression of the median nerve at the carpal
tunnel. The intervention has brought to an early and long lasting relief of
symptoms. Moreover, the histological aspect has been described and the
relatively high possibility of recurrence of this lesion is underlined.
Intra-articular fibroma of
tendon sheath involving the scapholunate and radiocarpal joints.Skeletal
Radiol. 2006 Aug;35(8):599-602. Epub 2005 Nov 10.
Fibroma of tendon
sheath is an uncommon benign soft tissue tumor with a predilection for the
hand. A unique case involving the scapholunate and radiocarpal joints with
bone erosion is reported. The patient presented with a transilluminating
mass over the volar radial wrist associated with neuropathy in the
superficial radial nerve distribution. Magnetic resonance imaging
demonstrated a heterogeneous and lobulated mass with nonspecific signal
characteristics closely associated with the scapholunate interval and the
volar wrist soft tissues. Histologically it represented a fibroma of tendon
sheath. The tumor is discussed and the relevant literature is reviewed. |
